Questions that need consideration in your project:
Section 1:
What are the three main types of volcanoes?
Why do volcanoes occur?
Where do volcanoes occur?
What hazards do volcanoes produce for people living near one?
Find an example of a historical volcano.
Find an example of a present (active) volcano.
You MUST have a bibliography citing ALL of you resources!
Section 1:
What are the three main types of volcanoes?
- How are the types classified?
- How do they differ from each other?
- What shapes do they have? (hint: it has to do with lava)
- What are the different parts of a volcano?
Why do volcanoes occur?
- Use the most modern theory of plate tectonics to explain why volcanoes occur (what is the Plate Tectonic Theory and how does it work?)
Where do volcanoes occur?
- Where do volcanoes usually occur?
- What is the specific area where many of the world's volcanoes occur?
- How did this area get its name?
- What are "hot spots"?
What hazards do volcanoes produce for people living near one?
- What (if anything) can be done about certain hazards?
- What can people do to prepare themselves for these hazards?
- Create a "model" emergency kit that people should have in their homes for emergencies (volcanic eruption, earthquake, etc.)
Find an example of a historical volcano.
- Where is it?
- Why has it been remembered throughout history?
- Include pictures (if possible) of the volcano.
Find an example of a present (active) volcano.
- Where is it?
- How big is it?
- What dangers does it pose for the people who live near it?
- How often does it erupt; when was the last eruption?
- Include pictures of the volcano. (A map showing its location will be a good idea!)
You MUST have a bibliography citing ALL of you resources!
- If you want full score for your bibliography, you must include at least five sources, one of which must be a non-electronic source.
- The term "booklet" refers to whichever project you choose to present your information with.
- Each group MUST include a hand drawn, LABELED diagram of a volcano.
- You are NOT limited to the websites listed on the webquest.
- The due date is Tuesday, 16 November, 2010.
- Use your time wisely!
